About
RJD – Palette & Pieces is a collection of handbuilt ceramic objects — vessels, vases, candleholders & paintings that reflect my love of art & artefacts, & my creative journey.
My style is quite eclectic. On one hand I love the quiet simplicity & calmness of Japanese & Scandinavian fashion & interior design, their use of soothing natural materials. But I also love the bohemian style of the 70's era & I have a real love for the craftsmanship of detailing found in textiles, prints & embellishments.
My background, as a womenswear fashion designer for 16 years, informs how I work today. It's called Palette & Pieces as the way I develop my work is how I approached my fashion concepts. Starting with a theme & colour palette, then combining texture, pattern & shape to create co-ordinating collections, consisting of pieces that can stand alone or work together as sculptural or functional displays.
For my home I love seeking out handmade, vintage or one-of-a-kind treasures, each with their own story to tell. And so these are pieces from my story, that once found I hope will become part of your home & story too.
Each ceramic piece is hand built using coil & slab techniques, I embrace natural variation, texture and form, no two pieces will be exactly the same. The RJD, an impression of my initials at the bottom of each piece, is the mark of authenticity.
The paintings tend to come when I feel inspired either by flowers I've bought or the ceramic pieces themselves & I can envisage how a painting can add to the collection.
My ideas are ever evolving, with a very limited production, sometimes only 1 or 2 of each. These one-of-a-kind pieces are designed to be timeless, & with a considered palette of my signature colours of soft neutrals & pastel tones, they can work in any interior environment.
I would love my pieces become part of your story & hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them,
with love,
Rachel x
