Rachel Davies is the ceramic artist & designer behind Palette & Pieces, her Dubai-based studio. After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design, Rachel spent 16 years as a womenswear designer before turning her attention to clay six years ago. This shift from fabric to clay continues to shape her instinctive approach to proportion, silhouette, texture & pattern.

Her Lace Coil series, hand-built from paper porcelain, explores traditional coiling in a distinctive way. Organic forms are created coil by coil, giving each piece a sense of rhythm & movement, while repetition & subtle irregularities create an almost textile-like quality inspired by the intricacy & delicacy of lace. The name Dentelle... French for lace ...reflects this connection between clay, craft & textile.

Her other collections, including Soft Geometry, bring pattern, texture & colour to the surface through timeless palettes & sculptural silhouettes. Checks, stripes & painterly glazes introduce a playful expression while retaining a considered approach to design. Rachel’s fashion background continues to influence the way she works, developing ideas as evolving collections & experimenting with contrasting forms, surfaces & techniques. Each piece retains the subtle irregularities & character of being made slowly, intuitively & by hand.
